Requirements for the Clear Credential with a Specialization in School Social Work Individuals must satisfy all of the following requirements: 1. A baccalaureate degree or higher, except in professional education, from a regionally-accredited college or university 2. Complete post baccalaureate degree study consisting of a minimum of 45 semester units in a Commission-approved professional preparation program specializing in school social work, including a practicum with school-aged children 3. Obtain the recommendation of a California college or university with a Commission-approved Pupil Personnel Services program specializing in school social work. This process will result in the college or university submitting the recommendation online. 4. Complete the Basic Skills Requirement. See Commission leaflet CL-667, entitled Basic Skills Requirement for additional information. 5. Complete the LiveScan fingerprint process (form 41-LS) 6. Pay the application processing fee (see Fee Information leaflet CL-659) once the recommendation has been submitted online by the college or university. Individuals will be notified via email that the application has been submitted and is awaiting payment in a secured database.

Additional Req Schools: Must obtain a Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential through theCommission On Teacher Credentialing. Applicants can also apply for a Special Class Authorization. The Special Class Authorization (SCA) is a teaching authorization that may be added to a credential that authorizes providing speech services. The SCA authorizes the holder to provide instructional services to special need students in the area of autism and speech and language impairment who are identified through the local level special education assessment, and to conduct Educational Assessments related to students - access to the academic core curriculum and Special Education Support.

Licensure Dependent on an Exam?: "1) Satisfy the Basic Skills requirement: Individuals may satisfy the basic skills requirement by one of the following Exam Methods: a. Pass the CBEST: Individuals only need to pass the CBEST once; CBEST passing scores remain valid indefinitely for all credentials and employment purposes. The scaled scores used for reporting CBEST results range from 20 to 80 for each of the three sections (Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) of the test. The passing score on each CBEST section is a scaled score of 41. A total score (the sum of Reading, Mathematics, and Writing scaled scores) of 123 is required for passing status. It is possible to pass the CBEST with a scaled score on one or two sections as low as 37, provided that the total score is 123 or higher. It is not possible, however, to pass the CBEST if any section score is below 37, regardless of how high the total score may be. 2) Subject-matter competency with the CSET Test or an approved college or university program
